There is no question that Rambam literal interpretations of the concept of Gehenna or Hell, and little doubt that the rabbis of Northern France who were involved in this controversy insisted on literalism (again, much like some Protestants today). <br /><br />One does not have to be a Straussian to interpret Rambam figuratively.
